Two limits, two jobs
Codex uses a rolling 5-hour window to smooth short-term bursts and a weekly limit to cap total volume across seven days. Both must have capacity for you to keep working: an exhausted 5-hour window refills continuously within hours, while an exhausted weekly limit holds until your weekly reset.
Rolling windows, not fixed clocks
Neither limit resets at a fixed calendar time. The 5-hour window continuously drops usage older than five hours. The weekly window starts with your own usage and resets seven days later. This is why your friend's reset times differ from yours.
Banked resets
Some accounts show a 'Banked reset: N available' line in /status — extra refill capacity on the account. Public documentation on how banked resets are granted is limited, so treat your own /status output as the source of truth for counts and expiry.
